Jiří Sopko and Jakub Sýkora: The colorful dialogue, Hradec Králové, 2022

Jakub Sýkora has chosen his former professor from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Prof. Jiří Sopek, as his exhibition partner for the Hradec Králové exhibition, with whom he is conducting an imaginary Colourful Dialogue in the almost above-ground clean spaces of the Gočár Ambrose Church. What they both have in common is working in series, the desire to look at one and the same motif again and again, in new colour and spatial contexts, without the pictorial theme becoming exhausted and soulless. The plot of the nearly twenty selected works by these artists is consciously in the background in both of them; in Sopek's works, large rhythmic colour surfaces dominate, but they do not lack inner tension and a certain majestic monumentality. In contrast, Sýkor's paintings are much more lively, articulated and dynamic. In Sopko's paintings, movement seems to have stopped, while Sýkorová's paintings radiate its flow. If we are talking about dialogue, then Sopko's paintings seem to be saying HERE, and Sýkor's answer is ON THE ROAD.
